It’s hot out today. I mean really hot out. Not simply sun beating down on you heat, but typical southern heat. The humidity is intense, and no amount of shade will release you of swimming in a pool of your own sweat. Feels like summer is here.
So as I was looking into the freezer, attempting to finds something, anything to ease the pain of today’s over bearing heat. I found myself reaching into a conveniently placed 6 pack of Wittekerke. Not mine, but I figured the 90 degree weather today was a good enough reason as ever to piss off my roommate.
As I poured my ice cold can of Wittekerek, (yes I said can), the first thing I notices was the bright yellow color. As I glanced deeper into the fizzing yellow liquid, I noticed the slight haze and floating bits and pieces suspended inside. The white head that formed, quickly disappeared as the bubbles continued to rise.
Wittekerke’s sweet, citrus, almost lemon aroma, reminded me of younger days where my mother would bring me sweet lemonade in cut with cold soda water and crushed ice.
The flavor is tart, with a lingering sweetness of wheat and yeast. The wheat more so than the yeast. The high carbonation give you a light feel and almost no aftertaste. What little aftertaste you do experience is in no way unappealing, and dissipates rather quickly.
Today was a good day for some Wittekerke. Light, fizzy, and citrus. Makes you want to sit on the front porch and watch the world go by.
