1. Glacier Brewhouse

After waking early and attempting to catch a few fish, and only succeeding in catching a single rock, it was time to feel better with a good beer.  My partner and I headed home to wash the mud off and make our way down to the Glacier Brewhouse.  Located in the heart of downtown, on 5th Ave, the brewhouse  is pretty swanky but well worth the effort.

We walk in only to see that building is packed to the brim and the wait for a table was well over an hour.  The only option was to stake out the bar section and hope to find some place to rest our weary legs.  After searching and blocking other patrons from achieving the same goal, we manage to find two seats with a beautiful view of the brewery.

There we opted to try their Raspberry Wheat and the Imperial Blonde, with a small slice of cheese cake.  The Raspberry Wheat boasted 210 pounds of raspberries per batch, and the color certainly shows it off.  The beer is a foggy light but bold pink color with a pink hued head.  It’s smell reminded me of ice cream, while my partner said it was more like cow pies, but I’m going to stick with ice cream.  The flavor was just what one would expect from an unfiltered wheat with fruit.  It was in no way unappealing, but not a good choice to go with the super sweat cheese cake.

The Imperial Blonde on the other hand, had a much different feel all together.  The blonde was a clear golden color.  The highest abv of the list from Glacier, at 9%, a sweet aroma but clean initial taste.  The flavor changes from clean and sweet to kick you in the throat alcohol.  Not bad, better than the raspberry wheat when paired with cheese cake, but kind of harsh.

I would recommend visiting the Glacier Brewery, but don’t even bother trying to walk into the front door for dinner without reservations.  It will be busy for dinner, and probably more so during the weekend.
